چکیده

In our quest to design and develop more effective natural language processing systems, our user models are becoming more sophisticated. But we have not gone far enough. The notion of a user model can be extended to social groups and subculture to produce group models. In this paper we use ILP techniques to learn interrogative subculture idioms. From those idioms we produce a model of the interrogative dialect that can be used in natural language generation. In particular we investigate how we can make the idiom of a response consistent with the interrogative dialect of a subculture.

Learning word-level dialectal variation as phonological replacement rules using a limited parallel corpus

This paper explores two different methods of learning dialectal morphology from a small parallel corpus of standard and dialect-form text, given that a computational description of the standard morphology is available. The goal is to produce a model that translates individual lexical dialectal items to their standard dialect counterparts in order to facilitate dialectal use of available NLP too...

Inductive vs. Deductive Grammar Instruction and the Grammatical Performance of EFL Learners

Learning a foreign language offers a great challenge to students since it involves learning different skills and subskills. Quite a few number of researches have been done so far on the relationship between gender and learning a foreign language. On the other hand, two major approaches in teaching grammar have been offered by language experts, inductive and deductive. The present study examines...

تولید خودکار الگوهای نفوذ جدید با استفاده از طبقه‌بندهای تک کلاسی و روش‌های یادگیری استقرایی

In this paper, we propose an approach for automatic generation of novel intrusion signatures. This approach can be used in the signature-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDSs) and for the automation of the process of intrusion detection in these systems. In the proposed approach, first, by using several one-class classifiers, the profile of the normal network traffic is established. ...

"Oh, I've Heard That Before": Modelling Own-Dialect Bias After Perceptual Learning by Weighting Training Data

Human listeners are able to quickly and robustly adapt to new accents and do so by using information about speaker’s identities. This paper will present experimental evidence that, even considering information about speaker’s identities, listeners retain a strong bias towards the acoustics of their own dialect after dialect learning. Participants’ behaviour was accurately mimicked by a classifi...

The Interrogative Model of Inquiry and Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning

The purpose of the study was to examine how the Interrogative Model of Inquiry (IModel), developed by Jaakko Hintikka and Matti Sintonen for the purposes of epistemology and philosophy of science, could be applied to analyze elementary school students’ process of inquiry in computer-supported learning. We review the basic assumptions of I-Model, report results of empirical investigation of the ...
